TILE-TITE™ is a bagged, premixed lightweight mortar for the application of roof tile that was
developed as a result of Hurricane Andrew.
On the surface, at least, it is no different from the
mortar you have always used to set roof tiles. It consists of type M Masonry Cement and an Inorganic Aggregate. However, that
is where the similarity ends!
TILE-TITE™ utilizes a lightweight aggregate rather than heavy
sand. One 40 lb. bag of TILE-TITE™ is equal in yield to approximately 150 lbs. of sanded mix. An equal volume of Tile-Tite™
as compared to a sanded mortar mix will hold twice as much water - a highly beneficial value for our South Florida Climate
and other similar areas. When placing mortar on a roof you will be lifting 1/2 the weight. A 10" trowel heaped with TILE-TITE™
will weigh only half that of a trowel of sanded mortar.
TILE-TITE™ has proven its greater
bonding ability in test after test and is the only mortar approved by the Florida Building Code for all 3 tile profile applications
in the Non HVHZ.
Even excluding the savings that will occur from handling a lightweight product
on your jobs, TILE-TITE™ is more economical to purchase and to use than the heavier sanded mixes. The reason is that
the "yield" from a single bag of TILE-TITE™ is equal to approximately two (2) bags of sanded material.
