This Stucco Resource Guide has been prepared by the
Northwest Wall and Ceiling Bureau (NWCB),
a nonprofit trade association corporation. The NWCB
is an international, construction trade association
for the wall and ceiling industry,
representing the United States and Canada.
The NWCB has been serving the construction industry
for over fifty years. It is recognized as a technical
authority, educational body and spokesperson for the
wall and ceiling industry. It provides services to architects
and the construction community on all matters relating
to the diversified wall and ceiling business. The basic
scope of construction in the wall and ceiling industry
consists of gypsum wallboard systems, fireproofing,
lath and plaster systems, exterior plaster systems (stucco),
exterior
insulation finish systems (EIFS),
ceiling systems, cold formed steel framing systems and
other related products and systems.
As the industrys development and coordination
organization, the NWCB saw the need to establish a complete
guide on stucco. This Stucco Resource Guide was published
in order to provide the construction industry in general
and the wall and ceiling industry in particular with
an all-encompassing stucco reference. This Stucco Resource
Guide has useful and needed information for the construction
community. The goal of this publication is to assist
in the design and application of stucco assemblies.
This Stucco Resource Guide is a compilation of information
on the portland cement plaster / stucco exterior cladding
system. It is a generic guide to developing construction
documents (drawings and specifications)
for a stucco project, standards for stucco systems work
and recommendations.
Portland cement plaster and stucco
are interchangeable terms. This guide refers to this
exterior cladding assembly as stucco.
This publication pertains to traditional/conventional
three-coat stucco (base coats,
scratch and/or brown coat, plus a finish coat);
although the NWCB represents and recommends other approved
plastering exterior cladding systems, such as exterior
insulation and finishing systems (EIFS)
and one coat stucco.
