DESCRIPTION

WONCOTE is a gypsum based veneer plaster coating designed to give either a smooth or sanded finish over veneer gypsum base boards, blue board, masonry block or concrete surfaces.

USES

WONCOTE is available in both a smooth and sanded texture finish. WONCOTE SMOOTH is designed for uniform smooth troweled finishes to provide an even, level, final finish. WONCOTE SANDED is designed to either float or provide rough final finishes. Both products are recommended for interior applications only and may be used in both ceiling and wall applications.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Economical - low cost
Superior workability
A hard, durable finish
Accelerated scheduling
A variety of texture options
Excellent scuff, scrubbing and crack resistance

COVERAGE

WONCOTE SMOOTH is packaged in 50 lb. bags and WONCOTE SANDED is packaged in 70 lb. bags. Both products must be applied at a rate not to exceed 115-135 square feet per bag. Coverage will vary depending on the desired texture and the porosity of the substrate.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Patch, level or resurface as required to provide a smooth substrate. Surface must be clean, cool, dry and free of dirt, dust, grease, efflorescence or other foreign matter that may prevent proper bonding. Veneer board must not be over exposed to sunlight or moisture.

MIXING

Measuring equal amounts of water and mixing for equal amounts of time from batch to batch will ensure

product consistency from batch to batch. WONCOTE will require approximately 2 ½ - 3 gallons of potable water per bag. Start the mixing process by adding ? of the total required water to the mixer. Add the appropriate amount of WONCOTE and then add the remaining ? of the required water. Mix for approximately 2 - 5 minutes to bring the material to a workable consistency. Equipment used for mixing must be clean. A common practice is to use a heavy duty drill capable of producing a minimum of 650 r.p.m's. under load. Over mixing rapidly shortens open time. Do not retemper the mix after this.

APPLICATION

WONCOTE can be applied over the following substrates:

Gypsum Veneer Board: Faded discolored, old or other questionable boards may be coated with Adicote bonding agent. All joints, corners, angles and squared edges must be reinforced with joint tape. Embed tape, beads and trims with a tight, thin coat of WONCOTE and allow to set. After tape, beads and trims have set, scratch a thin coat of WONCOTE over the entire area, immediately doubling back to full thickness of not less than 1/16" and not more than 1/8". It is best to scratch and double back with the same mix; avoid inter-mixing batches. During final troweling, use water sparingly after the surface has become firm. Do not over trowel.

Porous Cement Block: Apply only to block surfaces that develop proper suction or are scored to provide adequate mechanical bond. Apply WONCOTE in two coats. Trowel on WONCOTE SANDED as the first coat to sufficiently straighten wall, but do not trowel smooth. After the first coat sets, but before it dries, trowel on the second coat (of either WONCOTE SMOOTH or WONCOTE SANDED depending on desired finish). Total thickness should not exceed 1/8".

Monolithic Concrete. To ensure an adequate bond, ADICOTE must be applied to the entire surface. Apply WONCOTE in two coats. Trowel on

WONCOTE SANDED as the first coat to sufficiently straighten wall, but do not trowel smooth. After the first coat sets, trowel on the second coat (of either WONCOTE SMOOTH or WONCOTE SANDED, depending upon desired finish). Total thickness should not exceed 1/8".

When necessary, in order to enliven the surface, use a small amount of water and trowel in with additional material to overcome any blemishes or imperfections. For sand float finish omit final troweling and instead, after surface becomes firm, float to desired texture using sponge or other float system.

After curing WONCOTE must be coated with a high quality alkaline resistant paint to protect it from moisture.

CAUTION

This product may cause skin irritation. Any skin contact should be washed immediately with fresh water. When mixing this product, wear a respirator which is U.S. Bureau of Mines approved for toxic nuisance and
pneumoconiosis dusts.

CLEAN UP

Clean all tools and equipment with water while still wet. Cured material can be removed mechanically or chemically.

STORAGE

WONCOTE must be protected from moisture. Store off the ground in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight.

LIMITATIONS

Apply only when surface and ambient temperatures are 40EF - 100EF and relative humidity is below 85% throughout the application and drying time. Do not apply when there is a threat of rain or when humidity is 85% or higher.
Do not apply to any surface that is frozen or that has not completely thawed, dried and has reached a surface temperature of 40EF.
