COVERAGE

MARQUIZZO is packaged in 80 lb. bags and covers approximately 20 to 25 square feet at ?'' thickness. Coverage may vary depending on the method of application and condition of the substrate.

SURFACE PREPARATION

All substrates must be free of algae, dirt, grease, oil, dust, paints or sealers and any foreign material that may prevent or inhibit proper bonding.

NOTE: Only the experienced applicator at poolside can make the decisions as to what surface preparation may be required.

1) On previously plastered pools it is necessary to grind around the tile,
lights, returns, etc., to allow for a smooth transition. Surebond or Surebond 80 is required on any previously plastered surfaces as a bond or scratch coat to provide a uniform base for adhesion and even curing.

2) Previously painted or sealed pools must be sandblasted to completely remove the old coating.

3) Thoroughly wash the surface with a TSP solution to remove body oils and suntan lotions. Acid wash with a 50/50 solution of muriatic acid and water, rinse with a neutralizing solution of sodium bicarbonate and water, then perform a final rinse with clean water.

MIXING

Measuring equal amounts of water and mixing for equal amounts of time from batch to batch will ensure product consistency from batch to batch. Boxing different batch #'s will ensure final color uniformity. MARQUIZZO will require approximately 1½ - 2 gallons of potable water per bag. Start the mixing process by adding ? of the total required water to the mixer. Add the appropriate amount of MARQUIZZO and then add the remaining ? of the required water. Mix for approximately 5 - 8 minutes to bring the material to a workable consistency. Allow the mix to set for 5 minutes, then remix and add additional water if necessary to achieve the desired workable consistency. Do not retemper the mix after this.

MARQUIZZO is a complete product and requires no other additives. To avoid any complications, it is highly recommended that no calcium chloride be used.

If you choose to use calcium chloride, it must be used with caution, as "more is not better". It is always best to use 94 - 97% purity at a maximum of ? lb. per bag. If 77% purity is used, the maximum is ½ lb. per bag. 77% purity contains 23% filler material, which may include ingredients that could be harmful to the finished product. Always pre-dissolve calcium chloride and remove impurities by straining through cheesecloth.

NOTE: At the maximum addition rates, flash setting, trowel burning and other difficulties in both application and finishing may occur.

APPLICATION

Surface and ambient temperatures must be between 40°F and 100°F.

After MARQUIZZO has been properly mixed, it may be trowel or spray applied over a lightly dampened (no standing water) substrate. MARQUIZZO must be applied at a minimum thickness of ?''. Several trowel passes will be required to compact and level MARQUIZZO as the finish "stiffens". Do not hard trowel the finish, as it is not necessary and will only create more work during the finishing process. Pegboard and spike holes must be filled with aggregated material and not cement paste. Remove any excess cement paste after final troweling and use a grout sponge to gently remove cement paste from difficult polishing areas such as swimouts, inside corners of steps and tile line.

MARQUIZZO pool finishes are designed to be monolithic coatings. Sufficient personnel should be employed to eliminate cold joints. If the pool must be completed in phases, pre-determined stopping points must be used, such as tile lane markers, etc.

CURING

Protect MARQUIZZO from rapid drying conditions such as high wind, high temperatures and low humidity. Fog or mist the surface or place a protective covering over the pool. The cover should not be placed directly on the surface of the finish.

AGGREGATE EXPOSURE

Same day exposure is possible if the MARQUIZZO is sufficiently cured in temperatures of 80°F or higher. Overnight curing is recommended under cooler conditions. A 50/50 solution of muriatic acid and water is used to evenly expose the aggregate prior to polishing. Prior to the acid wash, evenly distribute 3 - 4 lbs. of sodium bicarbonate around the main drain to protect this area from over exposure due to the accumulation of the acid solution. Use a submersible pump to immediately remove any accumulated acid solution. Aggressively brushing the acid solution as it is being applied will help
to reduce the possibilities of streaking. Neutralize and remove the acid solution in an environmentally acceptable procedure. The surface must be buffed with a Hydro-Torqueä water driven polisher and Hydro Abrasivesä to properly polish the finish. Please refer to our "Marquizzo Installation Instructions" for more detailed application information.

FILLING PROCEDURES

Always fill a swimming pool without interruptions. An interruption in the filling process will cause a ring to be visible around the entire pool. Fill the pool as rapidly as possible using a sock or cloth on the end of all hoses to protect the finish. Do not allow the main hose length to lie on the surface of the finish or a visible mark may be apparent at completion.

CLEAN UP

Clean all tools and equipment with water while still wet. Cured material
can be removed mechanically or
chemically.

STORAGE

Turn inventory regularly and keep
bagged product protected from all forms of moisture, both direct and indirect, to assure maximum product usage, uniformity and productivity.

MAINTENANCE

The long-term performance of MARQUIZZO will be directly proportional to the care taken during the filling process, the first ninety days of pool maintenance and consistent routine maintenance thereafter. Adjust the chemicals to the following levels in the order as recommended by Premix and NSPI.

a) pH 7.4 - 7.6

b) Alkalinity 100 - 125 ppm

c) Calcium 250 - 400 ppm

d) Chlorine gradually to 2 ppm

e) Total dissolved solids <1000 ppm

f) Cyanuric acid <50

NOTE: During the start-up phase keep the pool pump running 24 hours a day until the water clears. The pool should be brushed twice a day for the first week.
